A native of the Indianapolis area, Maria began dancing in the competitive dance scene with Motivation Dance under the direction of Bruce Campbell in 2001. Her time with Motivation
Dance helped prepare her for the rest of her dance career as she won many regional and national titles as well as working with choreographers such as Brian Friedman, Mia Michaels,
Mark Meismer, Sonya Tayeh and many others. In 2008, Maria began studying at the Indianapolis School of Ballet under the direction of Victoria Lyras, getting the chance to perform
numerous ballets by the late George Balanchine while performing many lead roles such as Dew Drop in The Nutcracker. During the summers, Maria often attended the Alonzo King LINES Ballet
Summer Program, performing original works choreographed by Carmen Rozestraten, Maurya Kerr, Keelan Whitmore and Arturo Fernandez.
In 2015, Maria went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ballet Performance and Choreography along with a minor in Psychology from the University of South Carolina. As a USC student, Maria had the privilege to perform many ballets such as Serenade, Who Cares?, and Raymonda Variations alongside principal dancers of the New York City Ballet. She also danced professionally during her college career with Wideman-Davis Dance, touring the east coast. In 2018, Maria alongside some of her colleagues, performed in the American College Dance Association’s Finals competition hosted at the Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington, D.C. Since graduating from USC in 2019, Maria has since moved back to Indianapolis where she earned a Master of Arts in Arts Administration degree at Indiana University. Maria is thrilled to join the Turning Pointe family and share her love for dance with her students!
